Cast iron kitchen sinks have long been loved for their glossy color finishes. They are made out of melting metals at high temperature and then pouring the mixture into molds. They are then finished with a coating of porcelain enamel to give them their unique color.
Cast iron sinks are durable and beautiful, but they are not without fault. Heavy cookware and abrasive use can cause these sinks to chip, exposing the iron underneath the surface and causing them to rust. As such they are not recommended if you have family members who are prone to throwing things into the sink.
Still, cast iron sinks are built as strong as ever and some companies guarantee their durability by replacing your chipped sink at no cost. To install, cast iron sinks require at least two people because they are extremely heavy. Professional installation is recommended.
Kohler Whitehaven (30”, Single Bowl, Farmhouse)
The Kohler Whitehaven comes in 16 color finishes. It is a farmhouse style sink so it has an exposed front. The dimensions of the Kohler Whitehaven are roughly 30” by 22” by 10”. It will install with a minimum cabinet size of 30”, so it will work for small and large kitchens.
The single bowl configuration gives you a lot of room to work with even though it’s a 30” sink. Part of the reason is because the drain is positioned to the side. And even though the drain is positioned to the side, you will still have enough clearance to install a garbage disposal. The bowl slopes about 2 degrees towards the drain so water doesn’t pool. Overall this is a strong, beautiful cast iron farmhouse sink with limited lifetime warranty. Kohler guarantees that it won’t chip, crack, or burn.
Kohler Hartland (33”, Double Bowl, Drop-In)
The Kohler Hartland is a double bowl, drop-in cast iron kitchen sink. Its dimensions – 33″ by 22″ by 9″ – are the same as a standard kitchen sink so it should fit any cabinet. The bowls aren’t perfectly squared. But they are equally-sized and have a unique scalloped design. At the top, it has three pre-drilled holes at the center for the faucet and one accessory hole on the right.
As a cast iron sink it comes in a variety of colors. As with all Kohler cast iron sinks they are guaranteed not to chip, crack, or burn and come with limited lifetime warranty. We like to recommend Kohler sinks because they stand behind their products and give the buyer a peace of mind with their guarantee.
Kohler Langlade (33”, Double Bowl, Undermount)
For those who want an undermount cast iron sink, the Kohler Langlade is a good option. It is a double bowl sink that comes with a low divider to better accommodate large pots while keeping water separated. It has five pre-drilled holes so you can use them for your faucet, soap dispenser and other accessories like a garbage disposal switch.
The bowls are of equal size and are curved at the top to give it a unique look. The dimensions of the sink are 33” by 22” and it has a bowl depth of 9”. You will require a minimum cabinet size of 36” to install this undermount sink.
Kohler Riverby (33”, Single Bowl, Drop-In)
The Kohler Riverby is a functional sink that’s easy to install. It features a drop-in mounting style and a spacious single bowl. It has four pre-drilled holes for faucet and other accessories. The drain is located in an offset position with a 2 degree slope to help water drain. You will have enough clearance to install a garbage disposal even with the offset drain. It comes in a variety of attractive colors that make cast iron sinks popular.
The single bowl configuration allows you to hang accessories (such as a sponge tray) inside the sink while leaving you with enough space for other tasks. The dimensions of this sink are 33” by 22” with a 9” bowl depth. Once again it’s backed by a Kohler guarantee that the sink will not burn, chip, or crack and has a limited lifetime warranty.
Kohler Cape Dory (33”, Single Bowl, Undermount)
As you can probably see, Kohler makes some of the best cast iron sinks which is why they have taken over our list. The last one we want to take a look at is a single bowl, undermount sink: the Cape Dory. It features a large bowl with a drain located in the center of the sink. The dimensions are 33” by 22” with a 9” bowl depth. It will require a minimum size cabinet of 36” to install.
The Cape Dory comes with five pre-drilled holes right in the center. The shape of the sink is generally rectangle but not squared – it has beautiful rounded corners and curved edges. When you install this sink you will need to cut your countertops with curved edges and rounded corners, but the result is absolutely stunning.
