Emerson Evergrind E202 (1/2 HP) Review

Need something reliable and functional where affordability is the top priority? The Emerson Evergrind E202 1/2 horsepower waste disposal is the one you should consider purchasing. Even though time and time again, we’re reluctant to tell people to buy garbage disposals with less than 3/4 horsepower motors, when we do, it’s because they work well for a disposal with a weaker motor. You may have heard of InSinkErator, which is a popular line of waste disposals, but you may not have heard of Evergrind. The fact is that the Evergrind and InSinkErator garbage disposals are both products of Emerson, the parent company. So Evergrind is definitely not a brand made by a random company. The product is made by people who have many, many years of experience making waste disposals. So let’s take a look at the Evergrind E202.

The Emerson Evergrind E202 has the following features:

  • 1/2 horsepower motor rotating at 1725 revolutions per minute for effective grinding.
  • Overload protection with manual reset.
  • 26 oz grind chamber.
  • Compact design. Measurements are a little over 6 inches wide and a little over 12 inches tall.
  • Continuous feed technology with galvanized steel grinding elements, two stainless steel 360 ̊ swivel lugs, and a stainless steel sink flange.
  • 1-year warranty with in-home service.
  • Intended to be hardwired, operated by wall switch.
  • Quick Lock mounting for fast, easy installation.

Compact Size

This garbage disposal is on the small side. It would be perfect for smaller households or for those who do not cook a lot at home. If you don’t have much space below your sink, this disposal will more than likely fit for you. With a 1/2 horsepower motor, it would also be all that a light user would need. This garbage disposal, with its compact size, motor, and price, was made for small needs.

One-year Warranty

We noticed that “budget” models typically come with “budget” warranties. The Evergrind E202 only has a one-year warranty, whereas most garbage disposals have warranties of at least several years. One thing that is very important when purchasing a waste disposal is to consider the warranty and what happens after you purchase one. Is the support good? Is the company responsive? Is the garbage disposal reliable? You don’t want to be spending more time and money than you should on something that is so important that you would be using every day. When we look at garbage disposals, we know that it’s normal to assume they won’t last forever, but does it give you good value for dollar? In other words, for the price you pay, how many years do you get out of it? Even though this model only has a one-year warranty, we think it would be a great buy if it gives you several problem-free years.

Emerson Evergrind E202 Customer Reviews

So now, on to the reviews. How well does the Emerson Evergrind E202 perform? And should you purchase this product? While we have good first-hand experience with this garbage disposal, it hardly tells you anything because it’s just one experience. That’s why we like to include the opinions of other people who have purchased the same garbage disposal to give you an accurate, overall picture of what you can expect with this disposal. We’ll cover the positives first, then go on to the negatives.

The Positives: Function, Noise, Price

One of the really great positive comments about this garbage disposal is that it works really well for a 1/2 horsepower motor disposal. It chews through bones and tough foods smoothly. And while we caution against cheaper disposals that do not have good sound insulation, this one is quiet. Many customers have also mentioned that this disposal is “surprisingly quiet”. So it performs very well in terms of function and noise level. The other thing that probably sweetens the deal is that you can get this disposal for cheap. While we have reservations about the durability of the disposal especially since the warranty will probably be expired when you need to fix it years down the road, we do hear how some people purchased this exact model to replace their old one because it lasted “10 years”, “11 years”, “15 years”, and someone even said “20 years”. In our opinion, it doesn’t seem unlikely that this disposal will give you 5 years and even then we think it’s a good purchase.

The Negatives: No power cord

One of the negative things about this disposal is that while disposals typically come with a power cord, this one does not. So you’ll have to hardwire it to use, use it with your existing setup/power cord, or purchase a power cord to hook up. For most people, a garbage disposal that comes pre-installed with a power cord takes away half the work as well as the nervousness of dealing with wires. If you want to purchase something similar to the Evergrind E202 that has a power cord, and in our opinion looks better than this Evergrind, then take a look at the Moen GX50C.

Should you buy the Emerson Evergrind E202?

This waste disposal is a great option for those whose main priority is affordability, followed by function and quiet operation. It is a compact garbage disposal so it’s an attractive buy for those with little room under the sink as well.
