This is a review of the Waste King Legend 3200 and Waste King Legend 9940 garbage disposals. Both disposals are exactly the same except for their mount – the Waste King 3200 has an “EZ Mount” versus a “3-Bolt Mount” on the Waste King 9940.

These two garbage disposals are directly comparable to the InSinkErator Evolution Compact.

They have the following features:

  • 3/4 horsepower motor
  • 8-year in-home service warranty – whenever you find a material or mechanical defect on your disposer during the warranty period, Waste King service agents will come replace it free of charge. Just call their service representatives at 1-800-854-3229 with your model and serial number. Good to know: Waste King warranties are the longest in the industry.
  • Lifetime corrosion warranty
  • Stainless steel grind components
  • Continuous feed units
  • EZ sink mount system (Waste King Legend 3200) that provides a no-hassle installation OR a professional 3-bolt sink mount system (Waste King Legend 9940) that features durable stainless steel mounting components
  • Removable splash guard (Waste King Legend 3200 only)
  • Safe for properly sized septic tanks
  • 36-inch power cord included

Power Cord Attachment

Waste King garbage disposals each come with a power cord. This is a good feature to have because without a cord, you’ll have to hard wire your garbage disposal and this can create all sorts of electrical problems if done incorrectly. In most cases, the garbage disposal stops working and people can’t figure out why. With a power cord it decreases the likelihood of electrical problems. If you buy an InSinkErator model, you’ll have to pay about $10 extra for the power cord because it is not included.

EZ Mount / 3-Bolt Mount

As mentioned earlier, the Waste King Legend 3200 and 9940 are essentially the same garbage disposal in terms of feature, size, motor, and performance, but have a different sink mount. On the 3200 you’ll find an EZ Mount. This mount system is easier to install, hence its name, and is made out of aluminum. It has a removable splash guard that makes it easier to clean thoroughly. In comparison, the 9940 has a 3-Bolt Mount made out of stainless steel which is stronger. However, it does not have a removable splash guard.

Waste King Legend 3200 and 9940 Customer Reviews

To find out how well the garbage disposals actually work, we went through hundreds of customer reviews. This is a summary of those reviews. It will give you a full picture of what to expect when you purchase the Waste King Legend 3200 and 9940 garbage disposals.

Installation

Interestingly, the Waste King Legend 3200 EZ Mount isn’t so easy to install after all. There are about twice as many steps required in comparison to the Waste King Legend 9940 3-Bolt Mount. However, you’re only going to be doing the installation once so it’s better to look at what’s more important for you in the long-term. If you want something easier to clean, go for the Waste King Legend 3200. If you want something more durable, go for the Waste King Legend 9940. Your decision is solely a matter of preference. In both cases you should be able to finish the installation in less than an hour. One more thing: you’ll need some plumber’s putty to install the Waste King Legend 9940.

Noise Level

These Waste King disposals have good insulation so that even when powering a 3/4 horsepower motor, it operates quietly. On the Waste King Legend 3200 EZ Mount there are some rubber dampers to reduce vibration and noise even further. Given their price range, many people switch to the Waste King Legend 3200 and 9940 from the InSinkErator Badger series, which have weaker motors and no insulation because that product line is based on affordability. As a result they’re very noisy. So for about the same price, the Waste King Legend 3200 and 9940 are good upgrades from the Badger garbage disposals and have pleased many customers.

Grinding Power

Again, the InSinkErator Badger series have weaker motors than the Waste King Legend 3200 and 9940. So when customers made their upgrades, they were pleased that they had the freedom to grind many types of food scraps. Previously, it was impossible to grind even vegetables like carrots with the Badger. If you’re looking to upgrade to another InSinkErator and for an alternative to the Waste King Legend 3200 and 9940, we recommend checking out the InSinkErator Evolution Compact which is very similar. The Evolution series is more powerful and has significant sound insulation.
