This is a review of the Waste King Legend 3300 and Waste King Legend 9950 garbage disposals. Both disposals are exactly the same except for their mount – the Waste King 3300 has an “EZ Mount” versus a “3-Bolt Mount” on the Waste King 9950.
They have the following features:
- 3/4 horsepower motor
- 10-year in-home service warranty – whenever you find a material or mechanical defect on your disposer during the warranty period, Waste King service agents will come replace it free of charge. Just call their service representatives at 1-800-854-3229 with your model and serial number. Good to know: Waste King warranties are the longest in the industry.
- Lifetime corrosion warranty
- Stainless steel grind components
- Continuous feed units
- EZ sink mount system (Waste King Legend 3300) that provides a no-hassle installation OR a professional 3-bolt sink mount system (Waste King Legend 9950) that features durable stainless steel mounting components
- Removable splash guard (Waste King Legend 3300 only)
- Safe for properly sized septic tanks
- 36-inch power cord included
One thing you’ll notice about the Waste King Legend 3300 and 9950 garbage disposals is the 10-year warranty. If you compare these two to the Waste King Legend 3200 and 9940, you’ll notice two differences: 10-year warranties vs. 8-year warranties and a 14.5 inch x 8.5 inch body vs. a 13.6 inch x 7.75 inch body. In other words, the Waste King Legend 3300 and 9950 are like the big brothers – they have a longer warranty and a bigger grind chamber.
3/4 Horsepower, 2,700 RPM Motor
The Waste King Legend 3300 and 9950 garbage disposals feature a 3/4 horsepower, energy-efficient, high-speed 2,700 RPM “vortex” motor. In plain English, that means it will grind the toughest foods. They are continuous-feed disposers which means you add food waste in a steady stream while it runs, with water of course. Though powerful, they are equally quiet thanks to insulation. Also, the grind chamber itself is made of glass-filled nylon so you don’t have to worry about corrosion. In fact, the disposers come with lifetime warranty against corrosion.
EZ Mount / 3-Bolt Mount
As mentioned at the beginning of this article, the Waste King Legend 3300 and 9950 are essentially the same garbage disposal in terms of feature, size, motor, and performance, but have a different sink mount. On the 3300 you’ll find an EZ Mount. This mount system is easier to install, hence its name, and is made out of aluminum. It has a removable splash guard that makes it easier to clean thoroughly. In comparison, the 9950 has a 3-Bolt Mount made out of stainless steel which is stronger. However, it does not have a removable splash guard.
Waste King Legend 3300 and 9950 Customer Reviews
To find out how well the garbage disposals actually work, we went through hundreds of customer reviews. This is a summary of those reviews. It will give you a full picture of what to expect when you purchase the Waste King Legend 3300 and 9950 garbage disposals.
A common complaint of the smaller brothers Waste King Legend 3200 and 9940 was that they were a bit too small. It can create small inconveniences for some people because you’d have to dispose food scraps in smaller batches. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing because you’re avoiding jams that way. But if you want a bigger model, then the Waste King Legend 3300 and 9950 are better options.
Is the EZ Mount really easy to install? Interestingly, the EZ Mount on the Waste King Legend 3300 requires about twice as many steps as the 3-Bolt Mount. However, you’re only going to be doing the installation once so it’s better to look at what’s more important for you in the long-term. If you want something easier to clean, go for the Waste King Legend 3300 because it has a removable splash guard. If you want something more durable, go for the Waste King Legend 9950 because the mount is stainless steel. In both cases you should have no problem doing the installation with minimal plumbing experience. One more thing: you might want to pick up some plumber’s putty for the installation.
You’re going to need a garbage disposal with at least a 3/4 horsepower motor if you’re going to grind those lemon wedges! We’ve heard countless stories of how people who have owned weaker motors experienced jams and couldn’t grind anything if their life depended on it. Like the other garbage disposals reviewed on this site, the Waste King Legend 3300 and 9950 will grind whatever food waste you throw at it! Okay, maybe it’s a bad idea to put grease and cigarette butts, but any reasonable food scrap will get chewed up. If you need to restart the garbage disposal, Waste King is very good in that their restart button is at the front where it can be easily accessed. On the InSinkErator garbage disposals, that button is harder to reach because it’s located underneath the disposer. We also recommend checking out the InSinkErator Evolution Essential which is very similar in size and performance to the Waste King Legend 3300 and 9950.
One thing to be careful about is some people received a defective product and had to have it returned for another one. They would install it and upon turning it on, nothing would start. Others have said it made weird noises. Waste King was able to determine that it was defective and would send an agent over to replace it. However, for those who bought it from Amazon, they simply returned it and got a new one. Amazon is much faster and they have a great return policy.
Should you buy the Waste King Legend 3300 and 9950?
Both Waste King Legend 3300 and 9950 get amazing reviews from past buyers as well as consumer groups. They function well and are available for an unbeatable price. For the same price, you’ll only end up with a 1/3 horsepower when purchasing other brands. Waste King is one of the two leaders in making garbage disposals so you don’t have to worry about quality. You can also rely on their warranty. We know it’s hard to do research and sift through all your disposer options, so let’s just say this: you’ll definitely be happy with purchasing the Waste King Legend 3300 or 9950.
