This is a review of the Waste King Legend 5000TC and Waste King Legend 9900TC garbage disposals. Both disposals are exactly the same except for their mount – the Waste King 5000TC has an “EZ Mount” versus a “3-Bolt Mount” on the Waste King 9900TC.

These two garbage disposals are directly comparable to the InSinkErator Evolution Cover Control Plus, which are all batch feed disposers. You can recognize a Waste King batch feed disposer by the “TC” on their model name.

They have the following features:

  • 3/4 horsepower motor.
  • 10-year in-home service warranty – whenever you find a material or mechanical defect on your disposer during the warranty period, Waste King service agents will come replace it free of charge. Just call their service representatives at 1-800-854-3229 with your model and serial number. Good to know: Waste King warranties are the longest in the industry.
  • Stainless steel grind components.
  • Batch feed units (no wall switch required).
  • EZ sink mount system (Waste King Legend 5000TC) that provides a no-hassle installation OR a professional 3-bolt sink mount system (Waste King Legend 9900TC) that features durable stainless steel mounting components.
  • Removable splash guard (Waste King Legend 5000TC only).
  • Safe for properly sized septic tanks.
  • 36-inch power cord included.

3/4 Horsepower Batch Feed

Waste King makes three types of batch feed disposers: one with a 1/2 horsepower motor, one with a 3/4 horsepower motor, and one with a 1.0 horsepower motor. The Waste King Legend 5000TC (EZ Mount) and 9900TC (3-Bolt Mount) are batch feed disposers with the 3/4 horsepower motor. The motor is plenty enough to power through bones – we don’t recommend anything less than 3/4. Being batch feed disposers, you operate them by first turning on the cold water, inserting the food scraps, and finally inserting the cover to turn on the disposer. Essentially, you grind food in “batches” instead of letting in a steady stream of food scraps with continuous feed disposers. Batch feed minimizes the risk of dropping in silverware, jewelry, and other unwanted materials.

EZ Mount / 3-Bolt Mount

The Waste King Legend 5000TC and 9900TC are the same garbage disposal in terms of feature, size, motor, and performance, but have a different sink mount. On the 5000TC you’ll find an EZ Mount. This mount system is easier to install, hence its name, and is made out of aluminum. It has a removable splash guard that makes it easier to clean thoroughly. In comparison, the 9900TC has a 3-Bolt Mount made out of stainless steel which is stronger. However, it does not have a removable splash guard.

Waste King Legend 5000TC and 9900TC Customer Reviews

To find out how well the garbage disposals actually work, we went through hundreds of customer reviews. This is a summary of those reviews. It will give you a full picture of what to expect when you purchase the Waste King Legend 5000TC and 9900TC garbage disposals.

Size

A major difference between the Waste King Legend 5000TC and 9900TC and InSinkErator Evolution Cover Control Plus is the size. Many people commented that if you’re deciding between these batch feed models, make sure you double check on the dimensions. The Waste King Legend 5000TC and 9900TC are slightly bigger and could be problematic to connect if you have a deep sink. The InSinkErator Evolution Cover Control Plus is the better option for smaller cabinet space.

Easy Installation

Whether you opt for the EZ Mount or the 3-Bolt Mount, customers said that both are fairly easy to install. The one obstacle that made the installation tricky was if you had to replace an old InSinkErator because you’ll have to replace the mount. You’ll have to use Waste King hardware. Because these are batch feed models, you won’t have to install a switch. The switch is the stopper itself. If you want something easier to clean, go for the Waste King Legend 5000TC because it has a removable splash guard. If you want something more durable, go for the Waste King Legend 9900TC because the mount is stainless steel.

Reliable

In general many people were pleased that the Waste King Legend 5000TC and 9900TC work as they should. They’re both quiet and powerful – having a 3/4 horsepower motor you won’t have any problems grinding lemon peels and bones. One customer bought a 9900TC which lasted 13 years without any problems and replaced it with a second one. Understanding that nothing lasts forever, they were more than happy to buy another 9900TC when one of the blades eventually broke off. It certainly helped that they never experienced a jam in those 13 years.

Should you buy the Waste King Legend 5000TC and 9900TC?

The Waste King Legend 5000TC and 9900TC are easy contenders among batch feed garbage disposals. It’s hard to beat their price, performance, and warranty – 10 years for both. While it isn’t the quietest batch feed disposer, they give a great run for your money. For those who prioritize noise level, the InSinkErator Evolution Cover Control Plus is a better choice among batch feed disposers. If you get a batch feed disposer, it’s a good idea to buy a cover to allow water to drain when not using the disposer.
