1.0 Horsepower Batch Feed

Waste King makes three types of batch feed disposers: one with a 1/2 horsepower motor, one with a 3/4 horsepower motor, and one with a 1.0 horsepower motor. The Waste King Legend 8000TC (EZ Mount) and 9980TC (3-Bolt Mount) are batch feed disposers with the 1.0 horsepower motor. It’s the most powerful motor that is used in garbage disposals. Being batch feed disposers, you operate them by first turning on the cold water, inserting the food scraps, and finally inserting the cover to turn on the disposer. Essentially, you grind food in “batches” instead of letting in a steady stream of food scraps with continuous feed disposers. Batch feed minimizes the risk of dropping in silverware, jewelry, and other unwanted materials. Some people might also think it’s safer to use since it can’t be turned on unless the cover is inserted.

EZ Mount / 3-Bolt Mount

The Waste King Legend 8000TC and 9980TC are the same garbage disposal in terms of feature, size, motor, and performance, but have a different sink mount. On the 8000TC you’ll find an EZ Mount. This mount system is easier to install, hence its name, and is made out of aluminum. It has a removable splash guard that makes it easier to clean thoroughly. In comparison, the 9980TC has a 3-Bolt Mount made out of stainless steel which is stronger. However, it does not have a removable splash guard.

Waste King Legend 8000TC and 9980TC Customer Reviews

To find out how well the garbage disposals actually work, we went through hundreds of customer reviews. This is a summary of those reviews. It will give you a full picture of what to expect when you purchase the Waste King Legend 8000TC and 9980TC garbage disposals.

Most Powerful Batch Feed

Equipped with a 1.0 horsepower motor, the Waste King Legend 8000TC and 9980TC is the most powerful batch feed disposer between renowned brands Waste King and InSinkErator. They’re very quick to demolish tough food scraps such as chicken bones. Many people bought this garbage disposal because it was a batch feed disposer that had the most powerful motor. They liked the idea that the stopper is the on/off switch, giving them assurance that their kids wouldn’t lose any fingers because of the disposal despite its power. Also, they noticed a significant jump in power when they replaced their 3/4 horsepower disposals. But because of the batch feed design, most people found it necessary to buy a drain cover to allow water to flow through when not using the garbage disposal. Otherwise, water wouldn’t drain well with the cover on or it’s easy to drop things in with the cover off. In theory the stopper can be set in a position to allow liquids to pass through, but sometimes it would actually plug the drain.

Easy Installation

When you install the Waste King Legend 8000TC and 9980TC, the most important part is to first figure out if you have enough room. That’s because they’re among the largest Waste King disposers. Both the EZ Mount and the 3-Bolt Mount are fairly easy to install. Because these are batch feed models, you won’t have to install a switch. As mentioned earlier, the on/off switch is the stopper itself. If you want something easier to clean, go for the Waste King Legend 8000TC because it has a removable splash guard. If you want something more durable, go for the Waste King Legend 9980TC because the mount is stainless steel.

Safety First

Naturally, you shouldn’t be letting your 3-year-old play with the garbage disposal. But some parents choose the batch feed disposers over continuous feed ones, preferring not to take any chances. With the Waste King Legend 8000TC and 9980TC, there seemed to be less instances compared to other garbage disposals of utensils and other things falling through.
